Iñigo Córdoba’s return to the lineup has brought better results for Athletic. During last weekend’s win over Villarreal the winger gave the team much-needed balance and was even more influential in Sunday’s 4-1 win over Real Valladolid. Córdoba assisted the second goal of the game with a beautiful cross and scored the fourth goal himself with a right-footed shot from just inside the box.

“It’s been a good week,” Córdoba told AthleticTV after the match. “We’ve won two league games and advanced to the Cup final. We’re very happy. Today we created chances, but we also finished them as well and scored goals. We’re aware that if we want to compete we have to win games away from home. It was a great game.”

Having now won two straight games in La Liga the Lions are determined to keep the streak going. “We must continue like this. Now we have this week to prepare for the match against Atlético Madrid and it’s good for us to rest to be as good as possible.” Iñigo Córdoba’s fine performances could see the 22-year-old keep his place in the lineup as Athletic seek to pick up another vital three months at San Mamés.
