Ander Capa And Unai Núñez Suspended For Next League Match Against Real Valladolid
Athletic’s 1-0 win over Villarreal was a massive relief for the Basques. Having gone ten league games without a victory, Gaizka Garitano’s side were in desperate need of a good result to turn things around and start climbing the table again. Athletic put in a solid performance at San Mamés, though the win didn’t come without casualties.
Defenders Ander Capa and Unai Núñez were two of five Athletic players to be booked and will miss the next league game through suspension. Capa committed a foul early in the first half while Núñez was cautioned for wasting time in the final minutes of the game. Both will be unavailable for next weekend’s trip to Real Valladolid.
With the two unable to feature in the next league match, it’s very likely that Gaizka Garitano will field a 4-2-3-1 formation as Núñez’s absence will prevent the team from playing with three center-backs. Iñigo Lekue will be expected to take Capa’s place at right-back.
In the meantime, Capa and Núñez are free to play in Thursday’s Copa del Rey semifinal second leg while Dani García will miss out due to a suspension of his own. It should also be noted that Yuri Berchiche, Iñigo Martinez, and Iñaki Williams are all one booking away from a Cup suspension as well and would theoretically be ruled out for the final if shown a yellow card against Granada.
