Unai López Back In Training Ahead Of Basque Derby
This season has been something of a rollercoaster for Unai López. After beginning the campaign as a regular starter, López slowly started to lose his place in the team. Over time the 24-year-old began to see minutes again until Gaizka Garitano’s switch to a 5-3-2 resulted in being dropped for a second time.
López has hoped to start last weekend’s Basque Derby against Osasuna with Iker Muniain and Dani García both suspended. However, that wasn’t the case. The midfielder suffered a thigh injury during training and was quickly ruled out for the clash at San Mamés.
Fortunately, López should be available for Sunday’s trip to Vitoria. The Lezama product was back in training on Thursday and is hoping to be cleared for the match against Alavés. Meanwhile Unai Vencedor and Oihan Sancet have continued training with the first team this week with the possibility of being called to the squad list once again.
The return of Unai López wasn’t the only exciting news at Lezama today. During the first 15 minutes of training which is open to media members, Oscar De Marcos was seen doing running drills. The right-back underwent ankle surgery two months and isn’t expected to be cleared to return for another month. Being able to run shows that De Marcos’ recovery is going well and that the 30-year-old should be able to make a full recovery.
