Asier Villalibre Doubtful For Alavés Match With Back Injury
Asier Villalibre has come on strong over the past month. After barely featuring at the beginning of the season, the 22-year-old earned a place in Gaizka Garitano’s rotation in January and took advantage of his opportunities by scoring three goals. Villalibre has even found himself in the starting lineup on a number of occasions, but will likely be unavailable this weekend.
In the first half of Sunday’s loss to Osasuna the young striker felt discomfort in his back and was taken off for Oihan Sancet at halftime. Garitano explained after the match that Villalibre had actually requested to be come off due to the pain and is now in a race for fitness ahead of Sunday’s Basque Derby against Alavés.
According to a report from Javier Beltrán of AS, Villalibre will be tested during Wednesday’s training session at Lezama to gauge how well his back has healed over the past few days. While there is a chance that the forward will be cleared to play, at this point he is expect to miss out on the trip to Vitoria.
