Unai López Injured During Training At Lezama
Athletic’s win over Granada on Wednesday night has put the Lions one game away from reaching the Copa del Rey final. However, the second leg won’t be played until 5 March. Until then, the team must turn their attention back to the La Liga campaign with a massive Basque Derby on the horizon.
The squad was back in training on Thursday at Lezama where Gaizka Garitano called up a number of youth players. Oihan Sancet, Unai Vencedor, Dani Vivian, Gorka Guruzeta, Antonio Salado, and Beñat Prados all trained with the first team with the possibility of being called up for Sunday’s fixture against Osasuna.
With Dani García and Iker Muniain both suspended for the match, others must step up in their place. Unfortunately, Gaizka Garitano will likely be without Unai López as well. The midfielder was forced to leave the field towards the end of training after feeling discomfort in his left thigh and is doubtful for this weekend’s match.
López was expected to start against Osasuna but, with Muniain and Dani García also unavailable, the manager won’t have many options to choose from in midfield. Raúl García, Mikel Vesga, Beñat, and Mikel San José are the only players available which means that some starlets could be summoned for the Derby at San Mamés.
