Dani García Suspended For Cup Semifinal Second Leg
Dani García had one of his best performances in an Athletic shirt in Wednesday night’s 1-0 win over Granada at San Mamés. The midfielder was instrument in the teams success, constantly winning balls and playing passes forward to Iñaki Williams, and was one of the best players on the pitch. It’s easy to see why García has played more minutes than anyone else in the squad, though he will be unavailable for the second leg.
The 29-year-old was shown a yellow card in the first half and will now be forced to serve a one-game suspension. Being without Dani García is certainly a blow for Athletic, though Gaizka Garitano will have options to take his place at Nuevo Estadio de Los Cármenes.
Going into the semifinal second leg, which will take place in Granada on 5 March, it’s also important to note that Yuri Berchiche and Iñigo Martinez are both one booking away from suspension. If either is shown a yellow card in the next Cup match they would miss the final if Athletic were to advance.
