Jon Cabo And Álvaro Núñez Make Bilbao Athletic Debuts In Win Over Cultural Leonesa
Bilbao Athletic were put in a difficult situation on Sunday as they welcomed Cultural Leonesa to Lezama. With several key players unavailable for the match due to injury, Joseba Etxeberria turned to Basconia to fill the bench for what would be one of the biggest games of the season. In the end, the Kumeak earned a difficult 1-0 victory with Oier Zarraga scoring a late winner which made the game even more special for two players.
Basconia’s Jon Cabo and Álvaro Núñez were both called up for the match and made their official Bilbao Athletic debuts in the second half. Cabo replaced Beñat Prados in the 75th minute, moments before Zarraga’s goal, while Núñez came on for Jesús Areso just before the final whistle. Both players are part of Athletic’s extraordinary 2000 generation along with others such as Oihan Sancet, Unai Vencedor, and Juan Artola.
Cabo has been vital for Basconia this season, scoring 2 goals in 21 appearances. On the other hand, Núñez actually began the season with Bilbao Athletic but was sidelined with an ankle injury early on. After recovering, the right-back returned to Basconia in order to play regular minutes and has enjoyed success with the Basauritarras. Debuting with Bilbao Athletic was a significant moment for both starlets who are expected to be fully promoted in the summer.
