Gorka Guruzeta Wants Segunda Loan Move
It’s been several months since Gorka Guruzeta made his return from ACL surgery and the striker is progressing well. Guruzeta has been training with the first team regularly and playing with Bilbao Athletic in order to have consistent minutes and rediscover his best football. The addition has benefited Joseba Etxeberria’s side massively as well.
With Ewan Urain and Andoni Tascón both missing the large majority of the season through injuries, Guruzeta has given Bilbao Athletic a proven forward to lead the attack. The 23-year-old could be the boost needed to ensure the Kumeak qualify for the promotional playoffs, but Guruzeta has other plans.
Before returning the plan was for Guruzeta to leave on loan once the January transfer window arrived. The injury situation at Bilbao Athletic has complicated a potential exit and the club is now said to favor the idea of keeping Guruzeta. Doing so would provide the forward guaranteed minutes and a significant role at Bilbao Athletic for the remainder of the season.
However, Javier Beltrán of AS has reported that Guruzeta would prefer not to spend the rest of the campaign with Bilbao Athletic. Instead, the young striker wants to move to the Segunda on loan. A number of second division clubs have already expressed interest in signing Guruzeta, namely Rayo Vallecano and Numancia, and there are believed to be other potential suitors as well.
In the end, the decision will be up to Athletic. The most important thing right now is for Guruzeta to have regular minutes to get back to his best level and he would personally like to test himself against stronger competition. Athletic are confident that Gorka Guruzeta can become an important player for the first team and will need to manage this situation well for the striker to have the best chance to earn a place in the squad for next season.
