Hamstring Injury Relapse Sidelines Bilbao Athletic Striker Andoni Tascón
Big things were expected from Andoni Tascón this season. After scoring 10 goals while on loan with Amorebieta last year, the striker returned to Bilbao Athletic in the summer ready to compete for a starting role. The campaign started well for Tascón who scored a goal in the opening match against Haro Deportivo, but a string of injuries changed the situation quickly.
An adductor problem followed by a hamstring strain forced Tascón out of action for two months. The 21-year-old eventually made his return against Barakaldo but it was short-lived. Tascón had been left out of the team in last two matches with Javier Beltrán of El Correo reporting that the forward has suffered a relapse to his hamstring injury. Tascón is only expected to be sidelined for around 10 days but has already been ruled out of Sunday’s match against Cultural Leonesa.
Injuries have been a major issue for Bilbao Athletic strikers this season. Along with Tascón, Ewan Urain has only made five appearances and is currently recovering from surgery on his left knee. As a result, Joseba Etxeberria has utilized defensive midfielder Iñigo Baqué at center-forward on several occasions while Gorka Guruzeta has also joined the team after fully recovering from last year’s torn ACL.
The absences of Andoni Tascón and Ewan Urain have complicated things for Bilbao Athletic this season. Fortunately, the team has still managed to play at a very high level and currently sit just three points off of second place following Sunday’s 3-2 win over Calahorra.
