Iker Muniain And Iñigo Martinez Expected To Play This Weekend Despite Missing Friday’s Training
In just two days Athletic will host Celta Vigo at San Mamés to kick off the second half of the season and the Lions are well aware that it will be a difficult fixture. Celta are currently in a deep relegation battle and are desperate for points which will force Athletic to be at their best on Sunday. Fortunately, Gaizka Garitano will have the luxury of fielding a very strong lineup.
Dani García and Raúl García are both expected to start Sunday’s match after missing training earlier in the week as are Iker Muniain and Iñigo Martinez who were absent from Friday’s session. The club hasn’t issued any medical report on the pair and everything indicates that there were likely working out in the Lezama indoor facility without issues as the squad was put through a recovery session.
On the other hand, not everyone will be available for the match. Gaizka Larrazabal has been unable to train with his teammates due to a minor muscle injury while Unai Simón is still recovering from mumps. Oihan Sancet and Gorka Guruzeta both worked with Bilbao Athletic on Friday and are expected to continue under the order of Joseba Etxeberria this weekend.
Athletic fielded a lineup with three center-backs in the last two league games against Real Madrid and Sevilla but will likely revert back to the team’s 4-2-3-1 formation against Celta. It will be up to Garitano to get the team right in hopes of securing a big victory and adding three more important points.
