Dani Vivian Makes Return After 3 Month Absence With Back Injury
The summer was an exciting time for Dani Vivian who was called up to train with the first team. In fact, the young defender did so well that he was named the fourth center-back behind Yeray, Iñigo Martinez, and Unai Núñez. It seemed like only a matter of time before Vivian would make his debut, but that has yet to happen.
Gaizka Garitano made the decision that Vivian would play with Bilbao Athletic when not needed by the first team and the defender began the season in fine form. Vivian started the first four games of the campaign and scored two goals, but was sidelined with a lower back injury. Despite returning for two more matches the 20-year-old was in a lot of pain and was soon unable to play or train.
Vivian’s last appearance came back on 12 October in a 3-3 draw against Amorebieta and he’s been recovering from the back injury ever since. Recovery went well and over the past few weeks Vivian has been able to rejoin his teammates in training with the goal of getting back onto the field. That day finally came on Wednesday as Vivian made his return in Bilbao Athletic’s 3-2 loss to Haro Deportivo at Lezama.
It wasn’t the perfect return as Vivian committed a foul which gave Haro a penalty, but after such a long absence the defender was happy to be able to play once again. Now that Vivian has made his return he is also available to Garitano once again and could have the opportunity to make his first team debut at some point in the near future.
