Aitor Seguín Set To Join Barakaldo On Loan For The Remainder Of The Season
Just a few months ago Aitor Seguín wasn’t sure if he would ever play football again. The winger suffered a torn ACL back in April of 2016 and struggled to make a full recovery. It would take Seguín nine months to return to the field but he would be quickly sidelined again due to reoccurring complications with his surgically repaired knee. Eventually, stem cell therapy was recommended as the last remaining option.
The treatment began several months ago and worked well. Seguín was able to make his return to the field in November during a friendly with Basconia and is now ready to enjoy football again. Unfortunately, the Lezama product won’t be have the opportunity to play for Bilbao Athletic this season but there are alternatives.
Seguín spent last week training with Barakaldo and was even seen traveling on the team bus ahead of the Copa del Rey match against Rayo Vallecano over the weekend. When asked about it, Barakaldo manager Hernán Pérez explained that the 24-year-old will likely be joining the team on loan for the remainder of the season.
“Seguín is a player who has trained with us this week. You already know that he has a peculiar situation and has been unemployed for a long time. We will give him affection and we will see how that knee and his head evolve. There is no doubt about his quality. If everyone agrees that he is fit and looks strong, it may be a possibly to incorporate him into the team.”
Reports in the Basque Country claim that a deal is already in place between the two teams for Seguín to join Barakaldo on loan where he will have the chance to play regular minutes this season and hopefully rediscover the excellent level he displayed several years ago. In the end, the most important thing is that Aitor Seguín will be able to continue his football career.
