Elche And Rayo Vallecano Target Gorka Guruzeta Loan Signing
Gorka Guruzeta has made a full recovery from last year’s torn ACL and is finally enjoying football again. Since being cleared to play the young striker has been featuring for Bilbao Athletic with the goal of building a rhythm and getting back to his best level. With so many injuries in the team Guruzeta has enjoyed a starting role, though the plan was for the young striker to leave on loan during the winter transfer window.
The most important thing at this point is for Guruzeta to have regular minutes. Athletic are confident that the 23-year-old can become an important player for the first team and for that to happen he must rediscover his best football after such a long absence. While playing in the Segunda B is certainly a step down for Guruzeta, the club values the idea of keeping the striker at Bilbao Athletic for the remainder of the season.
Continuing at Bilbao Athletic would benefit everyone. Guruzeta would have guaranteed minutes in a safe environment and the Kumeak would have a much better chance at achieving promotion with such a talented striker in the lineup. However, Athletic haven’t closed the door on sending Guruzeta on loan to the Segunda where he would be able to test himself against much stronger competition.
According to a report from Javier Beltrán of AS, Elche and Rayo Vallecano have contacted Athletic about signing Guruzeta on loan this month. The Basques have yet to reject either approach but the club will demand guaranteed playing time before even considering the idea of allowing Guruzeta to leave on loan. The transfer window will remain open until the last day of January which gives Athletic and Gorka Guruzeta plenty of time to make a decision about what is best for the forward.
