Mikel Balenziaga In Danger Of Missing Sestao River Match With Fever
Athletic will continue their Copa del Rey campaign on Saturday when the Lions travel to neighbors Sestao River with the goal of advancing to the next round. Although Athletic are taking the match very seriously, Gaizka Garitano will still rotate the lineup. Mikel Balenziaga is one of the players expected to benefit from others being rested, but his availability is uncertain.
The left-back missed Wednesday’s training session at Lezama due to a high fever and was only able to work separately from him teammates on Thursday. If Balenziaga isn’t able to train normally on Friday he will not travel with the team to Las Llanas. At this point there doesn’t seem to be any major concern from the club, but Balenziaga’s availability will be determined during tomorrow’s session.
On the other hand, Iker Muniain is expected to make his return from a hamstring injury in Saturday’s Cup match. The captain has missed nearly two months through injury and has been cleared to play. Just how many minutes Muniain is given remains to be seen, but simply being back on the field is great news for both the player and the club.
