Exceptional Peru Nolaskoain Flashing Quality While On Loan
The beginning of Peru Nolaskoain’s loan spell with Deportivo didn’t go according to plan. After making his debut in the opening game of the season, the Lezama product was then forced to miss the next six matches after undergoing an emergency appendectomy. Upon returning, Nolaskoain found himself starting at center-back due to an abundance of injuries in the team but thing would quickly improve.
Nolaskoain was moved back to his natural position as a defensive midfielder at the start of November and has been one of the best players in all of the Segunda. The 21-year-old has started the last 10 games in the midfield, scoring one goal, and has shown the ability to control matches, win possession, and even take the ball forward and create chances for teammates.
Over the past two months Nolaskoain has established himself as a key player for Deportivo while flashing all the qualities that made him such an exciting young player at Lezama. If the midfielder continues to play at this level throughout the remainder of the season he will return to Athletic in the summer prepared to compete for a role at San Mamés.
With the futures of Mikel San José and Beñat up in the air, there’s a very good chance that Nolaskoain could have a path to the first team. To this point, his loan spell has been a huge success and there’s no denying the fact that he has earned an opportunity at the next level. Peru Nolaskoain has the potential to become a starter for Athletic in the years ahead and his strength, excellent tackling, ability to read the game, aerial prowess, and versatility can be an invaluable asset for the Zurigorri once he returns to the club.
