Albacete Eye Loan Move For Cristian Ganea

Cristian Ganea isn’t a part of Gaizka Garitano’s plans at Athletic. The Romanian hasn’t played a single minute of football this season and is expected to leave on loan before the transfer window closes. Ganea had options to exit over the summer with Malaga, Sporting, and Tenerife all interested, but a move never materialized due to wage restrictions and other issues. Now it seems as though his departure could finally happen.

Following Athletic’s draw with Sevilla last weekend Garitano was asked about the possibility of players like Asier Villalibre and Mikel Vesga leaving on loan. “Ganea needs to play but the rest will stay,” he quickly responded. The Mister has already made it very clear that the 27-year-old needs to join a club where he will have regular minutes and one team from the Segunda has emerged as a possible destination.

According to a report from El Desmarque Bizkaia, Albacete have shown interest in signing Ganea on loan. The club is said to have been impressed with his performances while on loan with Numancia last season and believe that he can help improve their squad. For now, no other clubs have been linked with a move for Ganea though Javier Beltrán of AS has reported that clubs in Romanian remain interested in the left-back.

Leaving on loan may be Ganea’s only chance to prove that he deserves a place at Athletic. Though Garitano has said on multiple occasions that he’s been impressed with Ganea in training and with his professionalism, it hasn’t been enough to convince the manager to give him minutes. With only one year left on his contract, Cristian Ganea doesn’t have much time left to breathe life into his Athletic career.

  • Poor sod. He’d probably have done quite well had Yuri B not suddenly become available. Perhaps he should have joined (or should have been allowed to join) as soon as he’d signed, instead of waiting till the summer. He who hesitates is lost.
