Gaizka Garitano Confirms Cristian Ganea Will Be The Only Player To Leave On Loan
There haven’t been enough minutes to go around this season at Athletic, but Gaizka Garitano has proven that he has faith in almost everyone in the squad. Due to recent injuries players like Mikel Vesga, Kenan Kodro, and Asier Villalibre have had more chances despite the fact that the trio were all linked with possible departures this month. Following Friday’s draw against Sevilla, the manager made their situation’s clear.
“None of those who are playing will leave this month,” Garitano answered when asked if any of the three will be sent out on loan. “On top of that, we aren’t a team that will have reinforcements so we will not part with players that are contributing. Ganea needs to play but the rest will stay.”
Vesga, Kodro, and Villalibre have all played well when given the opportunity and Garitano will continue to give them chances when possible. On the other hand, Cristian Ganea has yet to see the field this season and isn’t part of the manager’s plans. The club will look for a loan assignment this month where the Romanian will be able to enjoy regular minutes.
The only possible departure that Garitano didn’t address was Gorka Guruzeta who has become vitally important to Bilbao Athletic since returning from ACL surgery. Guruzeta was expected to leave on loan this month in order to continue building a rhythm but has become the starting striker for the Kumeak due to there being so many injuries. At this point, Guruzeta’s situation isn’t clear but it’s possible that he will stay with Bilbao Athletic in order to have regular minutes and help the team compete for promotion.
