Ander Capa “This Is A Good Point To Start The Year Well”
Ander Capa has finally found his scoring boots at Athletic. Along with netting the winner two months ago against Levante, the right-back scored an incredible goal against Sevilla on Friday night that would have given the team all three points had Unai Núñez not been responsible for an own goal. Although Athletic had chances to win the game Capa is still satisfied with the draw.
“This is a good point to start the year well,” he told AthleticTV after the match. “The game was very balanced. We had more peace of mind to create more chances in the first half than in the second, but we know this is a difficult field against a team that plays very well. I’m happy to score the goal. I shot with the outside of my foot because that’s what crossed my mind. It’s a shame that the equalizer came.”
Securing draws on the road against Real Madrid and Sevilla in consecutive matches is no easy task. Capa says that the team should be proud of their recent results and believes that Athletic are very much in the race for a top 7 finish this season.
“We have achieved two points in very difficult fields and that should be valued. We are strong at the back and we have to continue like this. We want to point out that we are there in the fight for Europe.”
Fellow fullback Yuri Berchiche agreed with his teammate. “The team has done a good job overall, especially in the first half,” he told AthleticTV “We earned a good point on a difficult pitch. Now we are very keen to play the next game against Celta.” Before Athletic host Celta at San Mamés in two weeks, the Basques will first travel to Sestao River on Saturday for the second round of the Copa del Rey.
