Athletic Reject Mikel Vesga Loan Request From Leganés
Mikel Vesga has played very limited minutes so far this season, just 195 to this point, though he has had more prominence in recent weeks. The midfielder started the Copa del Rey match against Intercity two weeks ago and was then named to the lineup for the team’s last game against Real Madrid. Vesga did well in both games and while there’s suitors hoping to take him on loan, it doesn’t appear as though he will be leaving.
According to a report from Javier Beltrán of AS, Leganés have once again come calling for Vesga with the goal of signing the 26-year-old on loan in January. Vesga spent last season with Leganés where he was a regular starter and played very well which led the Pepineros to request a second loan over the summer. Athletic’s answer was no at the time and it’s the same response now.
While Vesga hasn’t necessarily played a key role in the team this season, Gaizka Garitano doesn’t want to lose the midfielder who provides depth and versatility. There will be more chances for the Vitorian in the months ahead with Athletic hoping to progress deep into the Copa del Rey as well as the La Liga schedule becoming more intense. Mikel Vesga will be expected to start next week’s Cup game against Sestao River and, for now, won’t be leaving San Mamés in January.
