Athletic Players Given The Week Off To Celebrate The Holidays
Sunday’s hard-fought draw against Real Madrid was a good way to end the year. It isn’t easy to get a point at the Santiago Bernabéu, but the Lions managed to silence Los Blancos with an incredible performance by Unai Simón and will go into 2020 with confidence and momentum.
The past 12 months have seen the team take massive steps forward with Gaizka Garitano at the helm and Athletic will enter the new year 7th in the La Liga table and very much alive in the race for Europe. Since the managerial change last December Athletic have been one of the best teams in the league, as well as one of Europe’s premier defensive sides, but there is still plenty of room for improvement and growth.
With this being the week of Christmas the league will be taking a break which means that the Athletic players have been given the week off to enjoy time with their families and friends. The squad will be back in training at Lezama on Sunday, 29 December at noon where Gaizka Garitano will begin preparing the team for the upcoming match against Sevilla which will take place just five days later at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán.
