Oscar De Marcos Undergoes Successful Ankle Surgery

Oscar De Marcos Training

Oscar De Marcos could return as early as April following ankle surgery (AC)

Oscar De Marcos has been suffering from an ankle injury he suffered back in 2017 and has barely been able to see the field this season. The 30-year-old has made just four appearances and the decision was recently made to see a specialist in Madrid due to the fact that there has been no significant improvement over the past month of recovery. Athletic announced yesterday that De Marcos would be undergoing surgery to repair the issue which has been a success.

The club provided an update on De Marcos on Friday with the news that the surgery had been performed in Madrid successfully and without any complications. Barring any unforeseen issues, De Marcos will be discharged from the hospital in 24 hours and allowed to return home.

Doctors Pedro Luis Ripolli and Mariano de Prado performed the surgery which will now require approximately three months of recovery before De Marcos will be able to rejoin his teammates. However, if the recovery goes very well there is a chance that the veteran could be back in the team in roughly 10 weeks. Regardless, the most important thing at this point is for Oscar De Marcos to have the time to make a full and healthy recovery so that he can enjoy football once again.
