Yeray, Aritz Aduriz, And Cristian Ganea Return To Training
Athletic had no problems dispatching Intercity yesterday in the first round of the Copa del Rey and will now have to wait until Friday for the next drawing. In the meantime, the Lions are busy preparing for Sunday’s trip to Real Madrid. It will be one of the most challenging games of the season, but the team had some good news in Wednesday’s training session at Lezama.
Yeray, Aritz Aduriz, and Cristian Ganea were all able to train normally with the rest of the team and could be cleared for this weekend’s clash. Yeray, who missed the Cup game with muscle discomfort, was in doubt for the match but is now expected to be able to play and will likely start alongside Iñigo Martinez.
Aduriz has been sidelined for several weeks with a hip injury and may still need time before he’s ready to be included in the squad. The striker was kept out of the final scrimmage of the session while Ganea, who has been recovering from an ankle injury, didn’t participate in the scrimmages at all.
Like Yeray, Ander Capa also missed the Cup match with muscle discomfort and was unable to train with the group today. The right-back worked separately from his teammates but wouldn’t be able to travel to Real Madrid anyway due to being suspended for yellow card accumulation.
As Iker Muniain and Oscar De Marcos continue to recover from injuries, Gaizka Garitano called up a few youth players to participate in Wednesday’s training. Oihan Sancet, Gorka Guruzeta, Dani Vivian, and Jesús Areso were all included in the session. Athletic will have Thursday off but will be back in training the following days in closed sessions.
