Yeray And Ander Capa Ruled Out Of Copa Del Rey Match Against Intercity With Muscle Issues
Athletic’s Copa del Rey match against Intercity should give several key players a chance to rest while others will be able to enjoy rare minutes. Although the Lions will be playing an opponent from the Tercera, Gaizka Garitano made is clear that he will field the strongest team possible in order to ensure safe passage to the next round. The Mister called up many important players, though not everyone was fit to make the trip to Estadio Martínez Valero.
Yeray and Ander Capa headlined a list of players who were left out of the call which also included the likes of Mikel San José and Iñigo Córdoba. After the squad list was announced, the club revealed that the two defenders were actually kept out of the team due to fitness issues. Yeray is currently dealing with a calf overload while Capa has the same problem with his thigh.
While the situation isn’t serious for either player, the muscle overloads did prevent the pair from being cleared for the game. The club fully expects Yeray to recover in time to start in Saturday’s match against Real Madrid, though Capa will miss the league fixture through suspension. With Capa unable to travel on Tuesday Garitano has called up Bilbao Athletic right-back Jesús Areso who could make his first team debut.
