Athletic Femenino Will Host Barcelona At San Mamés On 5 January

Athletic Femenino

Athletic Femenino set an attendance record with 48,121 fans filling the San Mamés (AC)

The Athletic Women’s team made history last season when they hosted Atlético Madrid at San Mamés for a Copa de la Reina match in January. Athletic announced that 48,121 fans were at the Cathedral for the match, the highest attendance in history of any women’s game played in Spain at either club or international level at the time. Now the Neskak are looking to do it again.

On Tuesday Athletic announced that the Women’s game against Barcelona next month will also take place at San Mamés. The match is scheduled for 5 January at noon and will see Ángel Villacampa’s side take on the league leaders who currently have a 12 point lead over the Basques.

It took Athletic Femenino a few months to adapt to a new coach but the team is playing great football at the moment. The Lionesses have just one loss in their last 7 matches and are coming off of an impressive 2-2 draw against reigning champions Atlético Madrid. Next month’s match against Barcelona will be a massive challenge and yet another positive step forward for Women’s football.
