Athletic’s Juvenil A side have been dominant this season. Led by starlets such as Nico Serrano, Nico Williams, and Kepa Uriarte the Kumeak currently lead the league table with 34 points from the opening 14 matches. It’s been a truly impressive start to the campaign for Imanol de la Sota’s side and even more spectacular considering that the team has done so well without one of the most important players.

Captain Adrian Trespalacios suffered a clavicle injury in the team’s second game of the season, a 3-0 win over Leioa at Lezama, and has been sidelined ever since. The team has been able to continue their fine form without the promising center-back but his return on Friday was certainly great news. Trespalacios started and played the full 90 minutes as Juvenil A won 2-0 on the road against Pamplona.

Midfielder Unai Vélez opened the scoring for Athletic in the 25th minute and the 1-0 lead would hold until the break. With just over 10 minutes left to play substitute Mikel López Goti would the second goal, his 5th strike of the season. Overall the Juvenil A put in yet another solid performance to move clear of Osasuna at the top of the table.

The return of Trespalacios will make the team even stronger as the Kumeak seek to win the league title and make a deep run in the cup. However, there is always a chance that the 17-year-old could miss more time. Trespalacios was registered with CD Basconia over the summer and may have an opportunity to make his debut with Basauritarras at some point this season just like Nico Williams did back in August.

Adrian Trespalacios joined Lezama back in 2014 as a 12-year-old and has consistently been one fo the most outstanding players in his age group. A tall, strong, and physical defender, Trespalacios excels in the air and reads the game very well for someone his age. The promising center-back is expected to be promoted to Basconia in the summer and has the potential to one day challenge for a place in the first team. However, for now the most important thing is that Trespalacios is healthy and able to play once again.
