Ander Capa Misses Training Ahead Of Real Betis Match, Oscar De Marcos Still Dealing With Ankle Injury
In just two days Athletic will be traveling to Seville where they will face off with Real Betis in hopes of securing a fourth straight victory in La Liga play. The match will be far from easy and the absences of Raúl García, Iker Muniain, and Aritz Aduriz present an even bigger challenge. It will be up to Gaizka Garitano to overcome the losses, though the manager could also be without another key player.
When Athletic took the field at Lezama on Friday for training Ander Capa was nowhere to be seen. The right-back missed the session and, with Athletic yet to release a medical report, there is no clear reason for his absence at this point. For now, the hope is that Capa will still be able to play on Sunday, though there is concern about his availability.
If Capa is forced to miss the match against Real Betis Oscar De Marcos would be the natural replacement at right-back. However, the 30-year-old will also be unavailable. While the club did not provide a medical report for Capa, they did for De Marcos and Cristian Ganea who are dealing with a left ankle and tendon injury respectively. That being the case, Capa’s possible absence would see Iñigo Lekue make his first start of the season.
On another note, Kenan Kodro has continued to train normally after working separately from the group on Monday. The striker could be chosen to start in place of Raúl García in the match against Betis, but it will be up Gaizka Garitano to select the strongest lineup to take all three points at the Benito Villamarín.
