Athletic Club Provide 1,600 Shirts To Be Tailored Into Gowns For Children In Local Hospitals
Athletic’s role in the local community cannot accurately be put into words. The club has impacted the lives of countless people in the area through a multitude of programs and has consistently worked to make a positive influence throughout Bizkaia and the Basque Country as a whole. The club has now launched yet another new initiative in collaboration with Osakidetza which is aimed at helping young boys and girls in local hospitals.
In partnership with Cruces and Basurto Hospitals, Athletic have provided 1,600 shirts which were tailored into gowns for the children receiving treatment at both facilities. “You have to see how the children light up every time a nurse offers them one of the shirts,” said Cruces Director Edurne Omaetxeberria.
Aritz Aduriz, Ander Capa, Yulema Corres, and Ainhoa Moraza visited the hospitals on Tuesday to hand out some of the special gowns and spend time with the children. Basurto Director Eduardo Maiz emphasized the role in which this initiative will help achieve the goal of making every hospital stay feel as much like home as possible for each and every child.
Athletic are open to providing even more shirts to be turned into gowns based on the needs at Cruces and Basurto, as well as other care centers in the area. In addition, the Athletic Foundation will continue to decorate different areas of the Children’s Centers with designs inspired by the club’s values and will be giving out diplomas signed by Iker Muniain and Ainhoa Tirapu which certify the children are “Supertxapeldunes” because of their behavior and courage during treatment.
In the coming days the men’s and women’s teams will also be making their yearly Christmas visits to the hospitals to spend more time with the kids.
