Kenan Kodro Trains Separately At Lezama But Is Expected To Play Against Real Betis
Athletic were back in training on Monday with a typical session following an intense match against Granada. The day began indoors with the starters given a lighter load before the team took the field at Lezama. Unai Simón was the only player from Sunday’s lineup who was included in the outdoor portion of the session, while the rest continued recovery work.
Kenan Kodro, who was supposed to start on the bench against Granada but didn’t pass his fitness test prior to kickoff, worked on a separate field from the rest of the squad. The striker has been dealing with a muscle overload for over a week now, though sources claim that there is no major concern over his status at this point. Kodro is expected to rejoin the team this week and could even start on Sunday with Raúl García suspended.
Meanwhile, Cristian Ganea was absent from the session entirely. The Romanian has yet to play a single minute this season and the reason for his absence is unknown. Athletic have not provided a medical report but could do so later in the day. Of course, Iker Muniain and Aritz Aduriz also missed training with the pair nursing a hamstring and hip injury respectively.
Gorka Guruzeta was back with the first team on Monday. The 23-year-old made his official season debut on Sunday with Bilbao Athletic as he continues his recovery from last season’s ACL tear. Asier Córdoba and Jon Rojo also worked with the senior squad at Lezama. Athletic will have the day off on Tuesday but will return to training on Wednesday as Gaizka Garitano prepares the team for a difficult trip to Real Betis this weekend.
