Iñaki Williams And Kenan Kodro Unable To Train Fully In Wednesday’s Session At Lezama

Iñaki Williams trained separately on Wednesday but is expected to play this weekend (MD)

Athletic were back in training on Wednesday after enjoying the previous day off and enjoyed what was mostly a recovery session. Players worked with weights and did conditioning for the majority of training before ending the session with ball drills. However, not everyone was a full participant as a handful of players are dealing with various issues.

Iñaki Williams, Kenan Kodro, Raúl García, and Yeray all worked together on Field 3 under the supervision of trainer Xabier Clemente with each having his own separate routine. The defender was the only one who joined the rest of the group for drills at the end of training. García, who left Sunday’s match with an apparent groin injury, underwent tests earlier in the week which ruled out any muscle damage. The club is being cautious with the defender in training though he is expected to play this weekend against Granada.

Williams and Kodro were working apart from the rest of the group due to their own issues which were explained in a medical report by the club after training concluded. Athletic stated that Williams was advised not to train fully as he is dealing with Catarrh Syndrome which is essentially inflammation of the mucous membranes in his nose or throat. Kodro, on the other hand, is nursing a muscle overload.

Before training ended Gaizka Larrazabal was forced to leave the session after a collision with Cristian Ganea. The winger fell and cut his head on a boot which required medical attention. As expected, Aritz Aduriz (hip) and Iker Muniain (hamstring) were the only players to full miss training and have already been ruled out for Sunday’s match at San Mamés.

Athletic will train in private on Thursday through Saturday before hosting Granada. Raúl García is expected to be available, as is Iñaki Williams, though Kenan Kodro’s status will depend on how he recovers over the coming days. It should also be noted that Garitano called up Bilbao Athletic’s Jon Morcillo and Basconia goalkeeper Aritz De Miguel for Wednesday’s training session in order to give the pair the opportunity to work with the first team.
