Raúl García Misses Training, Aritz Aduriz Still Sidelined With Hip Injury

Raul Garcia Training

Raúl García was unable to train on Monday with an apparent groin injury (AC)

Athletic’s win over Osasuna was cause for celebration on Sunday but the Lions will find themselves in a very difficult situation moving forward. Captain Iker Muniain will be out of action until January with a hamstring injury, leaving a major hole in the lineup. Raúl García figures to be one of the most important players during Muniain’s absence, but the 33-year-old may miss time as well.

García left Sunday’s game at halftime with what appeared to be a groin area. While Athletic have yet to issue a medical report for the forward, he did miss Monday’s training session as the team returned to Lezama. Most likely, García will be undergoing more tests at some point and the club will hopefully provide an update on his condition and the severity of the possible injury.

In addition, Yeray and Iñigo Martinez were absent from the session though sources believe both were given the day off out of precaution. Beñat and Oscar De Marcos, who missed Sunday’s match despite recently recovering from ankle injuries, trained normally and are expected to be available to Gaizka Garitano for this weekend’s fixture against Granada.

Unfortunately, Aritz Aduriz was unable to return to training. The striker has been nursing a hip injury for a few weeks now and will almost certainly miss Sunday’s match at San Mamés. Gorka Guruzeta continued to train apart from the group as well as he recovers from a muscle injury.

The players will have the day off on Tuesday but will return to training on Wednesday. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday’s sessions will all be closed to the public as Garitano gets the team ready to host Granada at San Mamés in what will be another massive game for the Zurigorri.
