Kenan Kodro “We Were Able To Endure Until The End”

Kenan Kodro didn’t celebrate the goal against his former club (LaLiga)

Kenan Kodro made his second appearance of the season on Sunday, coming on at halftime for an injured Raúl García, and played a vital role in the result. The striker took the field at El Sadar against his former club and was able to score the winning goal with just minutes remaining.

“I’m very happy to be able to play today,” Kodro told reporters after the match. “I hadn’t played for a long time and, on top of that, I got to play again on the field where I grew a lot. Fortunately, I scored and we achieved the victory. Not celebrating? The goal gave me the opportunity to be professional and it was respectful to not celebrate.”

Osasuna had gone 31 straight games at El Sadar without a loss before Sunday’s defeat and Kodro knew it was going to be a challenging fixture. The hosts pushed Athletic until the final minute but the Lions were able to come away with all three points.

“We knew we were coming to a very difficult field because the fans push them. In the first half we were better, not so much in the second half, but when we were worse they scored the goal and we were able to endure until the end. We played very well. We’re in a very positive dynamic and must continue like this.”

Athletic’s win lifted the Zurigorri to 5th in the La Liga table and just two points off of 4th-placed Atlético Madrid. The Lions will have the opportunity to climb higher next Sunday when they host Granada at San Mamés.
