CD Basconia’s Gorka Agirre Ready To Make Return From ACL Injury
CD Basconia have yet to find their best level this season, but have shown signs of improvement in recent weeks. Naturally, there was a lot of turnover in the squad over the summer when nine players were promoted to Bilbao Athletic and new manager Patxi Salinas has been tasked with sorting it all out. It’s certainly been a challenge and being without one of the team’s best players has added to the difficulty.
The Basauritarras have been without midfielder Gorka Agirre since the 19-year-old suffered a torn ACL last season, but a return is imminent. Agirre’s injury happened near the same time as that of Gorka Guruzeta and the two have been close throughout the recovery process. Guruzeta made his return to the field during last week’s friendly with Eibar and Agirre is about the do the same with Basconia.
Agirre has been training with his teammates for a few weeks now and is close to receiving full medical clearance to play again. In fact, there is a chance that he could be given the green light for this weekend’s trip to Tolosa. If that happens there’s a very good chance that he could make his return which would be a massive boost for the team.
Before the injury six months ago Agirre was one of the most outstanding players for Basconia. Like other starlets from Lezama’s famous 2000 generation, which includes the likes of Oihan Sancet and Unai Vencedor, Gorka Agirre has exciting potential and is determined to get back on the field as soon as possible to continue his development.
