Beñat Returns To Training, Unai Núñez Leaves With Muscle Discomfort
The Athletic players have had the last three days off but finally returned to Lezama on Tuesday for training. With a massive trip to El Sadar looming on the horizon Gaizka Garitano will spend the next few days putting the game plan together with hopes of taking all three points. Tuesday session included some good news for the squad, but potential problems as well.
Beñat was able to return to full training at Lezama after missing the last few weeks with a Grade II ankle sprain. The midfielder worked without any issues and is expected to be cleared for Sunday’s match against Osasuna. However, Aritz Aduriz was still unable to rejoin the group as the striker nurses a hip injury suffered two weeks ago.
Apart from Aduriz, Oscar De Marcos was missing from training as well though a reason for his absence has yet to be given. Meanwhile, Unai Núñez and Gorka Guruzeta both left the session early. Núñez felt muscle discomfort and was removed by the medical staff while Guruzeta was taken off out of precaution after suffering a blow. The forward motioned that he wanted to continue but was not allowed to do so.
Oihan Sancet also left the training near the end to do some individualized exercises due to playing an intense match with Bilbao Athletic over the weekend. Depending on who is and is not available on Sunday, Garitano could have some difficult decisions to make. For now, Athletic will continue training throughout the week in preparation and will be back at Lezama tomorrow at 10:30am for a session that will be open to the public.
