Gorka Guruzeta Makes Return In Friendly Win Over Eibar
It’s been a long road of recovery for Gorka Guruzeta. The young striker suffered a torn ACL in a match with Bilbao Athletic back in April and worked very hard to return to the field as soon as possible. Over the past several weeks Guruzeta has been training normally with his teammates and has finally seen the light at the end of the tunnel.
Guruzeta was called up for Friday’s friendly against Eibar at Lezama and made his return by coming on as a substitute to start the second half. The 23-year-old played well and showed no signs of issues in his 45 minutes. Moving forward, Guruzeta is expected to be made available to Bilbao Athletic manager Joseba Etxeberria and will play with the Kumeak before possibly leaving on loan in January, although there is always a chance that he could compete with Asier Villalibre and Kenan Kodro for a place in the first team.
At this point, the most important thing for Guruzeta is having regular minutes in order to get back to his best level. Athletic are confident that the forward can become an important player for the first team in the years ahead, but for that to happen he must be given the opportunities needed right now to rediscover his rhythm and confidence. Whatever happens, seeing Gorka Guruzeta back on the field Friday was wonderful news.
