Oihan Sancet Returns To Training, Iker Muniain Absent
It’s been an interesting week of training so far for Athletic. On Monday, both Oihan Sancet and Mikel San José suffered injuries and were unable to complete the session. The players were then given the day off on Tuesday before returning to Lezama on Wednesday where San José was able to rejoin the group without any issues. Sancet, however, was still absent.
The midfielder had fallen on a peg in the ground on Monday and cut his knee but the club did not provide any form of medical report. Thankfully, Sancet was back in training on Thursday and did so with a wrap on the area of his right knee. With Sancet and San José both training normally, the pair could be available for Friday’s friendly against Eibar.
Meanwhile, there are new issues to keep a close eye on. Iker Muniain was not present for Thursday’s training, though it’s unknown if his absence was due to injury or another reason. Unai Simón was also seen dealing with pain in his left knee but had no problems completing the session. While Muniain’s status is still uncertain, there is a chance that Simón could be kept out of Friday’s friendly if there is any concern.
Athletic will host Eibar at Lezama on Friday at 11:00am for a friendly that will be held behind closed doors. Players such as Iñigo Lekue, Asier Villalibre, and Kenan Kodro will have important minutes while Gorka Guruzeta is also expected to feature for the first time since suffering a torn ACL last season.
