Iñaki Williams has played in 132 straight games in La Liga (AC)

Iñaki Williams has been one of the most durable players in Athletic history. In an age where players are regularly rested and injuries are difficult to avoid, the 24-year-old has managed to keep himself in terrific shape and always available to the manager. It’s extremely rare to see Williams out of the lineup and on Sunday he reached an impressive milestone.

As Williams took the field against Levante he made his 132nd consecutive appearance in La Liga, equaling Carmelo Cedrún’s all-time record for the club. As of right now Williams owns the longest active streak of any player in the league and the striker will be expected to break the record in two weeks when Athletic face Osasuna at El Sadar on 24 November.

“I’m proud to match this record,” Williams told Athletic TV after the game. “I’m very grateful to all the teammate and coaches I’ve had.” Always once to put the team first, Williams was sure to praise the win over Levante which lifted the Basques to 6th in the table. “We were superior and deserved the three points; the team and the fans were great.”
