Aritz Aduriz Ruled Out Of Levante Clash With Hip Injury
There were a few surprises when Gaizka Garitano announced the 19-man squad for Sunday’s match against Levante. The manager called up Oihan Sancet, Asier Villalibre, and Kenan Kodro for the game but had fans confused as to why Gaizka Larrazabal and Aritz Aduriz had been left out. Not long after, the club provided an explanation for one of the omissions.
According to a medical report issued by the club, Aritz Aduriz suffered a blow to the left side of his hip during Saturday’s training session at Lezama which caused pain in the joint. Because of the injury, Aduriz was ruled out for Sunday’s clash and will undergo another evaluation on Monday to determine the treatment process that will take place.
At this point, the injury doesn’t appear serious and with the international break following this weekend’s match, Aduriz will have two weeks to recover. However, at his age, it’s difficult to gauge the severity and how long the 38-year-old will be sidelined. On the other hand, Larrazabal’s absence in the group appears to be a pure sporting decision by Garitano.
Fans are excited to see Villalibre and Sancet called up for the game but, with 19 players in the squad list, someone will have to be dropped. Earlier this season it was Villalibre who ended up watching the game from the stands when he and Kodro were both summoned and that could be the case once again. Either way, Garitano will have to get his selection right if the Lions are to win at San Mamés and climb the La Liga table.
