Dani Vivian Set To Miss Third Straight Game With Lower Back Injury
Expectations have been high for Dani Vivian since the start of the season. After signing a new contract with Athletic back in March, the 20-year-old was called up to the first team over the summer where he earned the role as the squad’s fourth center-back. Naturally, it meant that the defender likely wouldn’t have many opportunities and would be spending most of the campaign with Bilbao Athletic in order to have regular minutes and continue developing.
Even so, this is supposed to be a big year for Vivian who has the opportunity to be one of the leaders at Bilbao Athletic and, possibly, make his first team debut. The defender started the first four games of the season for the Kumeak, scored two goals, and was even called up for a first team friendly against Toulouse. However, things have taken a negative turn.
Vivian suffered a muscle injury in September that saw him miss three straight games for Bilbao Athletic. The 20-year-old eventually made his return in a 3-3 draw against Amorebieta but was immediately sidelined once again, this time with ongoing lower back pain similar to the issue Mikel San José dealt with earlier in the season. Athletic are determined to be cautious with the starlet and have already ruled Vivian out for this weekend’s match against Logroñés.
With Vivian set to miss his third straight game manager Joseba Etxeberria will continue to put his faith in the center-back pairing of Jon Sillero and Oier Luengo. Both have played at a very high level this season, but there is hope that Vivian could be cleared for next Sunday’s trip to Burgos. As a player on the cusp of breaking into the first team, Dani Vivian is eager to get back on the field but must also prioritize his health in order to make a full recovery and put these injury behind him.
