Peru Nolaskoain “I Give More To The Team As A Midfielder”
Versatility can often be an invaluable asset for a footballer, but sometimes it can also be a curse. Since being moved to center-back last season by former manager Eduardo Berizzo, Peru Nolaskoain has had to deal with constant questions about his position and it hasn’t gotten any easier since he joined Deportivo on loan. While the 20-year-old has been able to earn a place in the starting lineup, he’s frustrated that he hasn’t been able to focus on one specific role.
“I think it’s clear that I give more to the team as a midfielder”, Nolaskoain said in a recent press conference. “Personally, I feel more comfortable there. I am here to fulfill my orders, not to give them. I will do whatever is asked of me. I’m very grateful that the manager is giving me the opportunity.”
After starting the last three games in defense due to injuries, Nolaskoain returned to the midfield last weekend as Deportivo played Racing to a 1-1 draw. Now the Lezama product hopes to have more regularity in his positioning in order to take the next step forward in his development. Peru Nolaskoain is expected to start in the midfield once again as Deportivo travel to Fuenlabrada on Saturday.
