Gorka Guruzeta In The Final Stages Of ACL Recovery
Gorka Guruzeta’s season was cut short last year when the young forward suffered a torn ACL in an April match against Racing Santander. The Lezama product had already made his first team debut and was competing with Bilbao Athletic at the time in order to have regular minutes. Guruzeta had hoped to fight for a place in Gaizka Garitano’s squad over the summer, but instead spent the time recovering from surgery.
Throughout the entire recovery process Guruzeta has been full of optimism and confidence. In June the 22-year-old was posting videos of himself on a stationary bike and by September he was already running and working with the ball at Lezama. Recently, Guruzeta was able to join his teammates for parts of training sessions but has now taken another big step towards his return.
On Thursday, Guruzeta was cleared to participate in scrimmages with the rest of the first team and did so without any issues of hindrances. The starlet is now in the final stage of his recovery process and is expected to receive the medical green light to play again at some point November. Once that happens, Guruzeta will be given minutes with Bilbao Athletic and could leave on loan in the January transfer window.
Guruzeta wasn’t the only player making a remarkable return to training. Aitor Seguin, who also suffered an ACL tear three years ago, has struggled to make a full recovery and recently began stem cell therapy in hopes of regenerating tissue in his right knee. At one point it looked as though the 24-year-old would never play football again, but things have taken a positive turn. Seguin has spent the last few weeks training with Bilbao Athletic and was able to join the first team session on Thursday along with Gorka Guruzeta.
