Beñat Prados Makes Bilbao Athletic Debut In Win Over Real Valladolid
Last season was a rollercoaster for Beñat Prados. Widely regarded as one of the top midfielder prospects coming through Lezama, the Juvenil A captain was expected to have a big year but suffered a broken arm at the start of the campaign. After being sidelined for several months, he eventually made his return and was soon called up by CD Basconia. Prados immediately flourished with the Basauritarras and regularly showed the potential that suggests he could one day reach the first team.
Over the summer, Prados was called up to train with Bilbao Athletic but wasn’t given a place in Joseba Etxeberria’s team. With so many other midfielders in the squad, and the need for regular minutes, Prados returned to Basconia. The decision has proved to be the right one as Prados has established himself as one of the key players under Patxi Salinas.
It won’t be long until Prados becomes an important contributor for Bilbao Athletic with a full promotion expected next year. However, the midfielder has had opportunities to train under Etxeberria at times and even made his Bilbao Athletic debut on Saturday, coming on in the 85th minute for Oihan Sancet.
While Prados didn’t have very long to show his quality, he played well and showed that he is close to being ready for the next step in his career. Capable of operating as a defensive midfielder, in a pivot, or even as a playmaker in the right system, Prados has a very bright future ahead. The 18-year-old will be hoping for more opportunities with Bilbao Athletic moving forward and is expected to be promoted in the summer.
