Iñaki Williams “When You Lose Everything Is Terrible”
Iñaki Williams one of the best goals of the season in Sunday’s match at San Mamés, but it wasn’t enough to lift the Lions to victory. Athletic scored an unfortunate own goal late in the second half as the match finished in a disappointing 1-1 draw. After the game Williams expressed his feelings at having dropped two points but was still happy with the overall performance.
“We were superior. In the first half we deserved more than one goal. In the second they pressed us and put us in our third, but in the end we have seen the Athletic we wanted to see. When you win everything is beautiful but when you lose, even if it sounds bad, everything is terrible. It’s not fair that all the work we’ve done in the first part of the season is thrown away.”
The striker went on to admit that the team has had problems scoring enough goals to finish games early. That was certainly the case at San Mamés and Williams also explained that fatigue was an issue in the second half.
“Many times it’s difficult for us to kill games. Valladolid played well and deserve merit because they have players that took the ball forward and worked around pressure. The intensity of the first half results in fatigue and that affected the our energy after the break.”
Williams has only found the back of the net twice this season and knows he must contribute more. “I have to score more goals, but I’m calm because I’m adding”, he said. “This goal gives me confidence for the games ahead. Forwards live off of goals and that’s why I’m happy but it’s a pity that the goal didn’t serve to get three points.” Athletic will have the opportunity to get their season back on track moving forward, but Saturday’s visit to Atlético Madrid won’t be an easy fixture.
