Gaizka Garitano Fields Possible Starting Lineup For Real Valladolid In Training Scrimmage With Bilbao Athletic
It’s been a busy week of training for Athletic after the team was given the weekend off. Gaizka Garitano put the players through two sessions on Tuesday but changed things up on Wednesday in preparation for this weekend’s match against Real Valladolid. The first team held a scrimmage that included 16 players from Bilbao Athletic coached by Joseba Etxeberria and also saw Garitano field what will likely be the starting lineup on Sunday.
Despite having returned from international duty, Iñigo Martinez did not take part in the session. Instead, Unai Núñez worked alongside Yeray and is expected to start against Real Valladolid at this point. Ander Capa and Mikel Balenziaga bracketed the center-backs with Unai Simón in goal. Dani García and Beñat formed the double pivot with Iker Muniain, Raúl García, and Iñigo Córdoba playing behind Iñaki Williams.
Athletic will be without Yuri Berchiche who is still recovering from a dislocated shoulder while Ibai Gómez is doubtful due to a muscle injury that caused him to miss training. Garitano should have the rest of the squad available for the match at San Mamés. The players will have the day off on Thursday but will be back in training on Friday and Saturday ahead of Sunday’s clash with Real Valladolid.
