Athletic Club Announce Agreement Reached With Socios To Move Forward With The Grada De Animación
Aitor Elizegi’s promise to promote the Grada de Animación won massive support in December’s election. In fact, it was arguably the biggest reason why he edged Alberto Uribe-Echevarría by 85 votes to become the new President of Athletic. Socios were excited to move forward with the project, but Elizegi and his Board were immediately met with opposition once they announced the plans for the Grada at San Mamés.
After sharing that the Grada de Animación would be located in sections 107 and 108 the club reached out to Socios who currently hold seats in the area. Athletic provided the Socios with several options such as keeping their seats and being part of the Grada as well as relocating, but many of those affected by the plans were unhappy about being asked to move.
An assembly of more than 200 Socios was formed and the group began collecting signatures of support for their opposition. Over 900 signatures had already been submitted to Ibaigane when Elizegi made the decision to meet with the assembly in person in hopes of reaching an agreement before Sunday’s General Assembly.
Last week it was reported that the two sides had reached a deal that would allow the plans to move forward which has now been confirmed. Athletic have formally announced that the Board and assembly of Socios have come to an agreement and the issue has been resolved. Athletic will present the plans for the Grada de Animación moving forward during the upcoming General Assembly which will then be voted on by the Socios.
