Ruben Pardo’s Agent Confirms No Contact With Athletic Club
Recent rumors have linked Athletic Club with a move for Real Sociedad’s Ruben Pardo but the midfielder will not be making the switch to San Mamés. Last week, sources from Gipuzkoa claimed that the 26-year-old had already reached an agreement with Athletic for a five-year contract with the Lions expected to try to sign Pardo in January. However, Bizkaian sources immediately responded with reports that Athletic have had no contact with Pardo which has since been confirmed.
Pardo’s agent, Juan Ugarte, recently spoke with Miguel Gonzalez of El Correo where he corroborated that there’s been no contact with the Zurigorri. “We have not received any calls from Athletic”, he explained. “They haven’t called, not even to ask about his situation.” Ugarte did reveal that three other clubs have reached out with interest in signing the player.
After spending the past 14 years with Real Sociedad and making 193 appearances for the Txuri-Urdin, Pardo will be leaving the club in the coming months. The midfielder is in the final year of his contract and will not be signing a renewal with some reports going as far to say that he’s already been given permission to talk to other clubs. Pardo has not played a single minute this season and is said to be interested in leaving in January.
While Athletic won’t be pursuing Pardo in January, there’s always a chance that things could change if he is still without a club in the summer. Beñat and Mikel San José are also in the final year of their contracts with no guarantee that they will continue at Athletic, though starlets such as Oihan Sancet and Unai Vencedor are proving that they are ready to join the first team. Anything can happen in football, but for now Athletic have shown no interest in signing Ruben Pardo.
