Peru Nolaskoain “Tired” Of Being Asked About His Position
Peru Nolaskoain’s move to center-back last summer has left the 20-year-old in an odd situation. Versatility can be an invaluable strength but in this case it’s made it difficult for Nolaskoain to find his best form due to rotating between two different positions. Now on loan with Deportivo, the Lezama product started the last match in defense after playing in the midfield a week prior and was recently asked by reporters which position is the best fit.
“I’m a little tired of that question”, Nolaskoain responded. “I’ve played both and I think there is a lot left to get to my best level because I’ve just returned from an operation. It’s a matter of time. Right now it’s time to gain confidence, to have minutes, and I think my level will gradually be seen.” The starlet is clearly frustrated at having to regularly address the issue and just wants to focus on making the most of his opportunities.
For now, everything indicates that Nolaskoain will start in defense again this weekend. New manager Luis César will make the final decision, but a shortage of available center-backs leaves no other choice. Nolaskoain and former Athletic defender Eneko Boveda have been working together as the center-back pairing in training and are expected to start in Sunday’s match against Las Palmas.
