Oscar De Marcos Cleared For Celta Vigo Match
It’s been over a month since Oscar De Marcos was sidelined with an ankle sprain in Athletic draw with Getafe. The 30-year-old had been in good form before the injury which demanded that Gaizka Garitano find other options to take his place on the right wing. Several different players had their chances but De Marcos could be back in the lineup very soon.
De Marcos returned to training last week and has now been cleared for Sunday’s trip to Celta Vigo. Garitano tends to be cautious with players coming back from injuries, especially when they’ve missed multiple weeks, which makes it unlikely that he will start this weekend. However, simply having De Marcos back in the squad is a boost for Athletic after suffering their first defeat of the season last weekend at the hands of Valencia.
With De Marcos now recovered from his ankle sprain, Yuri Berchiche will be the only player ruled out this weekend due to injury. The left-back suffered a dislocated shoulder in the loss to Valencia and is expected to miss roughly one month of action. Mikel Balenziaga is expected to take his place in the lineup while Iñigo Lekue, Iñigo Martinez, and Cristian Ganea are all options as well.
Meanwhile, Bilbao Athletic manager Joseba Etxeberria will also be getting two important players back this weekend. Dani Vivian missed the last two matches with muscle discomfort but was able to train with the first team on Wednesday at Lezama and is expected to start against Arenas on Sunday. Ewan Urain has yet to play this season due to a knee injury but was on the bench last weekend and could finally make his Bilbao Athletic debut.
