Peru Nolaskoain has fully recovered after undergoing an emergency appendectomy last month and is ready to get back on the field. The Lezama product spent the past week and a half training with his teammates at Deportivo and is expected to make his return this weekend against Mirandés. Speaking to the media on Thursday, Nolaskoain explained that he was frustrated to miss so much time.

“It’s been a hard month and it became very long for me because I wasn’t in A Coruña or Bilbao”, Nolaskoain began. “I was in Huesca, no man’s land. It makes you angry because if you’re out for a muscle injury that’s part of football and injuries happen. But with appendicitis you can’t do anything to avoid it. I just had to rest.”

After joining Deportivo on loan for the season, Nolaskoain made his debut for the club as a substitute in the opening game of the campaign. He’s been unavailable for every game since and stated that he doesn’t count that first match as his debut. The 20-year-old is healthy again and excited to get back on the field.

“I played on the first game of the season but I don’t count that as my debut. I’m looking forward to Sunday and helping the team. I’ve been working with the trainers on the sidelines for a long time to get well physically. I’m fine now. I feel good kicking the ball and after a week and a half of training with the team I think I’m ready.”

Nolaskoain grew up playing as a midfielder but was moved to center-back last summer by Eduardo Berizzo. When asked which position he will play with Deportivo, Nolaskoain made it clear that he doesn’t really care. He just wants to be on the field.

“As long as I’m on the grass I don’t care where I’m playing. It’s a matter for the manager, not for me to decide. I will play where I’m told and will try to help the team. The manager knows that I can play at the back or in the middle of the field, but for now he hasn’t told me anything. I’m not nervous about the issue, I just want to play.” Peru Nolaskoain could make his return in Sunday’s match against Mirandés.
