Gorka Guruzeta On Track To Return From ACL Surgery In November
Gorka Guruzeta’s ACL injury last season was extremely unfortunate. The young forward had already made his first team debut, scored a goal in the Copa del Rey, and was getting regular minutes with Bilbao Athletic before the injury against Sporting in April. Guruzeta had hoped to fight for a permanent place in Gaizka Garitano’s squad throughout the preseason but was instead busy recovery from ACL surgery.
The entire recovery process has gone very well over the past few months. Guruzeta regularly posts pictures or videos on Instagram which show the progress he’s made and there haven’t been any setbacks. When preseason began back in July the 23-year-old was able to do running drills with trainer Xabier Clemente and has since taken the next big step in his eventual return.
Last week Guruzeta was cleared to start working with the ball and has been doing so every day at Lezama. This is normally the last milestone before a player is able to return to regular training with his teammates, which is expected to be the case for Guruzeta. Initial diagnosis suggested that the Lezama product would be able to return in late October or early November and Guruzeta is right on track for that timeline.
Once Gorka Guruzeta returns he will be training with the first team as well as Bilbao Athletic which is where he will be playing. The club is expected to send the 23-year-old on loan once the transfer window opens back up in January so that Guruzeta will be able to get much-needed playing time in order to get back to his best level of football.
