Athletic Welcome Idaho Governor Brad Little To Ibaigane Ahead Of Planned Visit To Boise Next Summer
Aitor Elizegi has put an emphasis on growing Athletic’s global brand since winning the Presidency back in December. The famous cook wants the team to be able to travel to other continents like many bigger clubs in order to connect with foreign fans and improve revenue. There was even talk of visiting the United States or Asia over the summer, but those plans never came to fruition.
With more time to prepare for a trip abroad, Athletic plan to visit Boise, Idaho in July of 2020. Boise is home to the largest population of Basque immigrants in the United States and next summer will also be the festival of Jaialdi which celebrates Basque immigration and takes place every five years. Athletic last visited Boise back in 2015 where they played Club Tijuana in front of nearly 22,000 fans and the next trip is supposed to be an even bigger event.
Sources claim that instead of playing just one friendly match, Athletic could spend several days in Boise and may even feature in a small tournament. The club has also entertained the idea of bringing both the men’s and women’s teams are part of the special trip.
Talks are ongoing and nothing is finalized, but Athletic are confident that the trip Boise will happen and are taking steps to ensure the event. On Monday the club welcomed Idaho Governor Brad Little, and his wife Teresa Little, to Ibaigane where he was presented with a custom Athletic shirt with the number 20, representing the upcoming trip in 2020. Unai Rementeria, the Deputy General of Bizkaia, accompanied Governor Little during his visit.
